The Encyclopedia of Lynncair - Organizations -
The Sereti The Sereti are a race of humanoids that inhabit the continent of Lynncair alongside humans. Sereti are not as intelligent as humans, yet they do possess some small level of intelligence; they are able to use primitive tools and weaponry such as spears and bows in order to hunt for their food and to carry out warfare between their small tribes and clans. Numerous efforts were made to better acquaint ourselves with the Sereti lifestyle in the fifth and sixth centuries, yet most projects have been long-since abandoned; the Sereti seem to be a culture frozen in time when it comes to technological and intellectual development--they have remained unable, even after lengthy experiments and inspired attempts by scholars, to learn or understand the language used by humans, and they do not seem to have a true language of their own, according to experts of Sereti culture. The Sereti as a race began to become more and more aggressive towards the end of the sixth century vis-à-vis humans invading their cultures, to the point that they began attacking humans that ventured too near to their settlements, which caused scholars to halt all Sereti-related activity and to withdraw from their culture as a whole. To this day, the Sereti remain fairly hostile towards humans. Geographically-speaking, the Sereti are largely based in and to the North of the Beldar Mountains, on the Sereti plains and in the Sereti Hills to the East of Kranomyrr. The Sereti live in tunnels and caves dug into a hill or the ground, often in small colonies. Each of these colonies almost always has some sort of leader-figure, which seems to usually be the strongest and most vicious of the tribe in physical combat. Honored positions are given to those able to fight well, whether they do so with blade or spear, bow or spell--yes, spell! On rare occasions, a particularly intellectually-gifted Sereti will somehow manage to establish a link to the arcane forces channeled by modern-day human mages, and will learn to channel those forces in order to cast spells, like humans do. These magic-wielding Sereti are extremely scarce, however, and no Sereti has ever been located that possessed any truly significant magical prowess. |
