The Archenchanters

The Archenchanters were wielders of Higher Magic, also known as the Power Superior--this was the same magic used by the Gods in ancient times.  It is a magic that taps into and draws on the vitality of its caster; the Archenchanters were individuals who were born with the ability to cast this powerful magic, and they mastered the Power Superior and used it to imbue their artifacts with their own life-force and perform superhuman feats of magic.  The secret of Higher Magic/The Power Superior was one kept heavily-guarded by the Archenchanters, and it died with the passing of the last Archenchanter, Nabul Gyrazzi, after he forged the Shardstaff.

The Archenchanters were both highly-respected and highly-reclusive at the height of their power; most folk living during the time of the Archenchanters never even saw one of the seven great magicians during their entire lives.  The Archenchanters were led by a mysterious man known only as The Hooded One (for the hood that he would wear whenever he made an appearance in public or private) who was the most powerful wielder of the Power Superior in the group.

One of the few things that is known for certain about the Archenchanters is that each of the seven, at one point or another, produced an enchanted artifact of tremendous power--the creation of this item is thought to have been some kind of ritual or initiation-ceremony for the Archenchanters.

In accordance with some unspoken command or communication between the Hooded One and the King of Lynncair, each of the Archenchanters were given places of honor when they were buried in the Royal Necropolis in Kranomyrr; their tombs are located in the upper-plaza, as opposed to being in any of the subterranean levels, and their burials always occurred in secret or in extremely select company, as opposed to being open to the general public--The Hooded One's burial, for example, was said to have been attended only by the King himself.

The symbol of the Archenchanters is a white 'A' lined in blue and cyan (the color of the Power Superior) flames.
