The Encyclopedia of Lynncair - History & Lore -
The Power Superior Originally, the magic known as The Power Superior (or Higher Magic) was wielded by the Gods; they used it to shape the world as we know it, and in battle against each other during the Godswar. The Power Superior is drawn from within its wielder, sapping one's vitality to power one's spells. No mortals have ever wielded The Power Superior prior to the Archenchanters, a group of magicians founded by a man known only as The Hooded One; the Archenchanters were individuals who could use The Power Superior due to some sort of innate affinity with it--it is unknown how or why one may be able to sense and use The Power Superior. Some believe that Tyakan, thought by many to be the only God to survive the Godswar, granted these men some special touch which gave them access to Higher Magic, but this is nothing more than a rumor at the moment. What is known for sure is that the Archenchanters left their mark on Lynncair before the last of their members, Nabul Gyrazzi, passed away; each of them used the Power Superior to enchant (hence their organization's name) a series of artifacts, bestowing unimaginable power upon each of them (for each was powered by their enchanter's life force). They also used The Power Superior to do other things--they constructed the legendary dungeon known as The Dungeon, located West of Kranomyrr, in the Forest of Llonyrr, wholly out of Higher Magic; many scholars of The Power Superior have spent years in this structure studying it, trying to discover more about how it works and how its secrets might be unearthed. The Dungeon is the only known physical example of the Archenchanters' work; their enchanted artifacts were buried with them in the royal necropolis in Kranomyrr, so those are inaccessible to scholars. Many landmarks are thought to be created with The Power Superior, such as the great white marble bridge connecting the province of Kiastar to the Lynncairen mainland, and the rock formation known as Godshand, located off the West Coast of the Isles of Dretorya, to the South-West of Lynncair.
