Morning update, busy day

Well, after an update this morning and between fielding various emails/comments/feedback throughout the day, I managed to go on a 6 mile run, to read&highlight 40 pages for my freshman seminar on the decipherment of lost languages, and to attend a 1.5 hour intro class for Shotokan karate, which was totally awesome! :) I've been stretching a lot these past few days, and it's actually paying off--I'm much more limber and I had no issues with flexibility today, unlike in my intro taekwondo session. I think I'm going to stick with Shotokan karate though; it was much more fun.

Anyhow, classes start "for real" tomorrow, so things might be busy for awhile...but I'll try to update on a relatively-daily basis, and to get some work in on Chapter 2 after a brief "avoid-burnout" break! :)

Heya Hugie!

You did a very fair review of my revamp (pun intented) of The Spires of Ravenloft a while back... just wanted to let you know I'm having a great time with Moonshadows! Nice, tight concise plot... I'm actually enjoying it more than Adam Miller's latest NWN2 entry.

A few small points...the area constructions are nicely done. I thought that the rather restrictive walkmeshes that confined me to the pathways were irritating, but only mildly so. Also, I can't seem to get into the secret door at the base of the statue, despite saying the magic word multiple times. I am playing the 1.06 version, though. Might be fixed in the latest 1.10 version.

Glad to hear that you're taking up Shotokan. I've been in the martial arts for over 20 years, and have recently joined a Shorin-Ryu Dojo in the area. FWIW IMHO, I think your choice of Shotokan over TKD is a good one. Might want to check out "Moving Zen" by C.W. Nicol who wrote about his Shotokan experiences during a time when Karate was not as common as it is today. It was an excellent read.

Good luck!

Hey Evan!

Ah, the good old days of NWN1 reviewing; Spires was an excellent exploration/dungeoncrawl adventure. :) I'm really glad to hear you're enjoying Moonshadows! The bug you're referring to has indeed been fixed (or, rather, a workaround was added as a "backup" option in case it doesn't work, as it seems to work/not work on an unpredictable basis) in the 1.10 version, as you suspected, though if you use the "runscript moon_obj_earlann_trapdoor" DebugMode command, you'll still be able to access the crypt.

Thanks for the advice re: Shotokan! I've actually missed the last 2 meetings due to various commitments, but I really want to start going on a regular basis. It's so much fun, and it definitely changes the way one thinks about one's body when walking around, stretching, etc...it's a different kind of awareness.

Cheers! Do you have any plans for NWN2 as a builder yourself?

Heya Hugie!

Still working through Moonshadows. Very nice touch with the reference to your "Perchance to Dream" Module when Khelben Blackstaff shows up! Also admiring the level construction... great atmosphere! Having problems in the East Forest Crypt (where the dwarf is)... opened the locked door with the key from the incorporeal mage, but the door leading downward from there doesn't open. Maybe its because I don't have page 2 of the journal?

Regarding my plans for NWN2, I've got an idea for a high level dungeon romp that I constructed for NWN1 and took a small group through, with a little twist at the end. A conversion to NWN2 shouldn't be too difficult theoretically. Unfortunately with a job/wife/3 kids all of my time seems to be take up. I'll probably wait until after MOTB comes out and see what new things are available in the toolset. I'm hoping someone will come up with something similar to LilacSoul's script generator for NWN2, as my ability to script is rather poor...
Spires of Ravenloft was only possible because of other people's base scripts and LilacSoul's program...

Looking forward to more of Moonshadows!
